Friday's Feast 137 - 3rd for me... and a day late!

I know I forgot something yesterday... I can't believe I forgot to feast! And oh how I love this week's feast... and the new website too! :-*

So anyway, here's my belated feast! :)

Appetizer
What are you proud of?
Hmm... being me? ;)

Soup
What is the best thing you’ve ever won as a prize?
I haven't actually won that many prizes :( so I'll have to say my bronze medal for the Product Presentation competition in 2005.

Salad
Name something you do that is a waste of time.
Hahah. I do lots of things that is a waste of time. My latest vice though? Playing Fish Tycoon! Definitely a waste of time. But, it's so interesting... :p

Main Course
In what year of your life did you change the most?
I'm hoping it's going to be 2007. Hahah. I think I changed quite a lot in 2003 though, that was when I graduated high school and started university.

Dessert
Where is a place you consider to be very tranquil?
The swimming pool at my backyard, and I mean underwater while I'm swimming. Nothing beats that, really. 8->

TGIF!

Here's some news about today...
1. I went swimming this morning. Hmm... I loooovveee swimming! :-*

2. I spent a whole lot of time playing Fish Tycoon like a maniac. This game is seriously addictive for no particular reason. Well, accept all the surprises it contains. I find it freakishly amusing to see all the kinds of fishes that come up. And with about 441 combinations, that's practically endless. :-O

3. I am also loving Image Chef. It's amazing and saves a lot of time to create nifty images for ID purposes... ;)

4. My laptop's back! Woohoo... Yeeaaah! Yet happy as I am, I still need to install lots of programs. Duh. :(

5. And it is now running out of battery so I better quickly go and post this before it's too late!

How irritating! *in my best Spore-an accent*

Blogger is being irritating. Yet this morning I had to handle a news even more irritating, as a warning suddenly showed up on my laptop screen saying 'Your Windows is not genuine - You may be a victim of software counterfeiting.'

Now I bought my ASUS U5F laptop during a large computer exhibition, and it was a really quick decision. I fell in love with it and HAD to have it. When it arrived, I had my suspicion because there wasn't any Windows CD with the package. I think I asked mom about it and she asked the dealer and we got a satisfying answer at that time because I stopped worrying about it. Until this morning, that is.

Anyways, mom called the service center and what did they say?? Well, apparently, during the exhibition, to be able to sell at a lower price they DID NOT install genuine Windows on their laptops. That is just... so... I have no idea what to say! @-)

I will have to admit that it was my fault that I didn't check and made sure about it, but is it really acceptable for the company to do that?? :-/ I don't know.

Yet, as there is evidently nothing I can do about it, I contacted our family's usual computer guy at Mall Ambassador and asked for genuine Windows to be installed on my laptop. The sad thing about this? Well, extra money, for one. Not having my laptop around for a few days (well, one day, actually) - OMG! No... #-O I NEED my laptop tomorrow!!! It's going to be a long irritating day at campus! Not just the lectures but also a two hour break in between the 6 hours of lecture. No. No. No! I planned to work on the magazine layout I told you about a few days ago, but now I can't. And I can't try to borrow my bro's laptop either 'cause I didn't save the files. Oh, how irritating!! ~X(

I might try to borrow bro's laptop for other things, though. Let's hope he lets me take it... probably not, but anyway. Oh, this is just really totally (or should I say genuinely??) irritating!! X(

On a lighter note, I should report that I met up with my thesis advisor earlier today (finally!) and we actually made some serious progress. Well, actually I made quite some progress in the morning as well as I spent about 3 hours working on the thesis. So yeah, I'm happy about that. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) now I can use the absence of my laptop as an excuse to procrastinate (yet I was so happy for making progress)... :((

Wow! It's a new layout!

Hahahah.

Hope everything is working fine though, cause it's the first time I did a layout all by myself on Blogger...

Oh, great. I've already found some errors *sigh*

I don't have time to fix it now, unfortunately. And I'm not really sure what's wrong with it anyway, so I'll get back to that later. Should you find out what went wrong, please tell me. And also tell me what you think of the layout! :)

Google Content

I'm going to risk sounding like a dork, but I've just noticed Google's homepage feature and seriously loving all the content they provide! :x

Going crazy over it at the moment. :p

Meanwhile napping too much seems to affect me towards doing stupid things and laughing uncontrolably about it afterwards. Hahah. =))

Annual Recital

Oh, and BTW, I've been working on several Photoshop projects since yesterday, mainly the magazine for Sunday School (yes, I'm actually doing magazine layout on Photoshop! I'm way too lazy to learn other programs, and anyway it looks great using Photoshop anyway, so why bother. Hahah :D)

The other project is a poster for Concilio Music Centre. Take a look!

Oooh, my brother is being so irritating! X(
Catcha later!

Ah, how cute... :)

Been spending time trying to be able to use those Yahoo emoticons on my blog... First got the code from Mr. Joni Poetra, who got it from Deepak, but it still wasn't working!

So I googled it, and alas, I should've known you should always rever back to the original creator when something is wrong.

Aren't those smilies just the cutest things?? ;)

Hacked by Godzilla

When I arrived home from campus earlier today and opened my internet explorer, I noticed something was wrong. Instead of the usual 'Google - Microsoft Internet Explorer', the title for my Google page was 'Google - Hacked by Godzilla.' I fell into an immediate panic. I haven't dealt with viruses for quite a long while, ever since I installed avast!, and besides I don't open suspicious e-mails AND I don't use my flash disk to transfer files that much.

Anyways, in the middle of my panic, I managed to search Google for the file and was relieved to find this site, which is in Indonesian and provides excellent instruction on how to get rid of the virus. An english version is available here, should you ever need it.

Apparently the virus originated in Thailand early January 2007. What it does, other than display the irritating 'Hacked by Godzilla' writing on your IE window, it locks the double click function used to open drives on your computer.

I still wonder how my laptop got infected with the virus, but after clearing it, I did a little tweak based on the above mentioned tutorial so now my IE window displays MY NAME instead of the Microsoft Internet Explorer (or Hacked by Godzilla, for the matter)... Hahah :P

Graphic Design Class

Went to a graphic design class for a day at Imago, sponsored by a magazine called Jollie - probably the best free magazine around at the moment here in Jakarta. The graphic design class was a collaboration with the First International Design School in Singapore, and the speaker was actually a Singaporean. His name is Andrew Wong. The principal of FIDS, Mr. Mark Phooi also came in to visit us for about 15 minutes.

I have got to say I truly enjoyed myself. Part of it was because of the Singaporean speakers, I guess... I have this serious 'thing' about Singapore :P
The other part was because of the class topic itself.

The reason why advertising (and graphic design) is so interesting for me is because of how simple things could be so brilliant, and how an image or a tagline could convey so many messages which affects the customer, but it takes a workshop like this to open your eyes (well, at least my eyes) and realize just how much message there actually is. Like Macintosh's apple logo, for example. I love how it is supposed to potray innovation based on Newton's gravity theory (you know, the fallen apple thing) and how Macintosh is part of that innovation based on the bite on the apple.

I also generally like 'messing around' with photoshop, and I love marketing - thinking about target markets and how to attract them and all that - and I think it's about time I learn new programs and actually get a bit more serious into design and advertising. It's so much fun! And it pays well too, I heard ;P

Maybe I'll take up some more advertising/graphic design class in the future. Or perhaps a diploma/degree? In Singapore? Hahah. We'll see.

Oh, BTW, thanks everyone for leaving a comment in my Friday's Feast. I think it's a bit too late to go feasting today, but I'll make sure I visit your sites next week though! Have a great weekend!! :)

Friday's Feast 136 - 2nd for me

Appetizer
Who is your favorite news anchor/reporter? Why?
I don't really watch the news that often, but I like this lady from MetroTV called Najwa Shihab and also Chantal deLaConchetta because of their names :P

Soup
Name 3 foods that are currently in your freezer.
I have frozen prata, pizza and some pita bread... and it's a coincidence that they all start with a P.

Salad
If you were to have the opportunity to name a new town or city, what would you call it?
That would depend on what makes the town or city unique. But hey, what would you think of 'Chrysalis City?'

Main Course
What will most likely be the next book you read?
Aspects of Indonesian Culture by the Indonesian Heritage Society... need to start working on my thesis for good!

Dessert
What's the first thing you notice about the opposite gender?
Honestly? It's their looks. Mainly the face, especially the eyes, then their whole body/appearance :)

Thursday Thirteen - 2nd Edition

Thirteen Special Teddy Bears From My Collection

Since last week most of the comments were about my teddy bear collection, I decided to feature 13 of 'em for this weeks Thursday Thirteen. Enjoy!

1. Teddy

The oldest of all my teddy bears, teddy has been mine since before I was born. He's a Steiff bear and a present from my father. I hardly played with him though, because I didn't really like teddies when I was younger. I played more with Hawe the rabbit, his partner-in-crime. And now, well, he's a most treasured possession of mine.

2. Oscar

Oscar was named after the restaurant I did my internship in last year. What makes him special is that he's electronic. He can move parts of his body and make different bear cub sounds, you can tickle him and even play peek-a-boo! Oh, and he also 'drinks' from his bottle. A real crowd pleaser, as I've found out myself, Oscar provides lots of laughs among children and adults alike, even though some people have mentioned that he's a bit on the scary side.

3. Changi

The first Ty bear I own, Changi was bought at Singapore's Changi airport in 2005. Her name is actually Baby Iceberg as the nametag says, but she didn't like being called Baby, I already have a bear called Iceberg and I really wanted a bear to commemorate my visit to Singapore that time, so Changi was called Changi.

4. Smile

I got this bear as a farewell present from some of my friends at Oscar's (aka my internship restaurant). The name was pre-embroidered on its right leg, but is amazingly enough also the acronym of the names of those who gave it to me :)

5. Dan

Dan is special because... he's one of the most expensive bears I own at a price of almost 800,000 rupiah. Mom bought him for me as a present when I finished my oral final examinations.

6. Clay

Clay is my masterpiece! Hahah. I actually made him all by myself using clay (hence the name).

7. Bebe

Bebe is the biggest bear in my collection. And I mean he's HUGE! A few weeks after I bought him I found on the internet that his name is actually Beauchamp and that he's an Aurora bear.

8. Charly

Oh, Charly! He's one of those love-at-first-sight bears. Except I didn't immediately buy him, so I was so delighted when I finally got my hands on him. Charly used to be the star of my project called 'The Charly Project' in which I aimed to take pictures of 100 people holding Charly. I put the project to an end because Charly's fur was getting ruined.

9. Heartley

I really don't know what it is about Heartley that makes him so special. There's just something special about his face. He's a Ty Attic Treasures bear and is fully jointed.

10. Simonn

No, I did not mispell his name. It really is Simonn with two n's. His name is actually an anagram of my crush at the time I bought him (the guy was with me when I bought Simonn, BTW). What I really like about Simonn is that he's small and actually poseable, making him perfect to carry around and take pictures of. Simonn has been with me to Sentosa island in Singapore and to Xiamen, China.

11. Ben

The vandalized bear, someone once called Ben. He's actually a signature bear, and the signatures on him are from my friends at Oscar's. I had them sign him when I finished my internship. He got his name, Ben, because the real Ben, a captain at the restaurant signed his name twice on each ears, in really big letters... there was no way I could've not call him Ben.

12. Stewart

During my internship in Oscar's, I was attached to the Business Floor breakfast outlet for about a month. While I was there, there was this customer called Mrs. Stewart - my first encounter with her, she had asked me for a cup of coffee to drink at the poolside bar. When she finished the coffee, however, she insisted on returning the cup straight to my hand. She walked all the way to the waiter's side station and gave it to me, while she could've given it to any of my friends standing along the way. Her 'act' caught our attention that all of us remembered her and treated her well during her stay. She gave each of us a 10SGD tip when she went home. Stewart here was bought with that 10 dollar bill.

13. Beckett

Another love-at-first-sight bear, when I saw Beckett I knew I had to have him. Mom wouldn't let me buy him though, so I spent the whole week bragging about him that mom actually grounded me. I wasn't allowed to mention his name until we finally went to buy him, which was about another week. When we finally went back to the store, at first I was devastated because he was no longer at the shelf. Luckily though, they just moved him to another shelf... and so I finally got him :)

Sunset Weather Forecast

Last Tuesday my Indonesian Language and Culture lecturer mentioned something about forecasting tomorrow's weather by looking at the sunset. He said that if the sunset is orange it's going to rain the next day, and if it's yellowish then the sun's going to shine bright (or the other way around, it's not like I paid that much attention to him.)

Anyways, as I looked at the sunset yesterday, I wondered what it could mean... perhaps God hasn't decided whether it's going to rain or shine tomorrow? The sky was partially orange and partially yellow. Check it out...

I got the answer this morning though... the sun was shining, but surrounded with dark clouds. Should've known :D

Hmmpphhh...

Can't upload my pics here at campus... so my Thursday Thirteen entry will have to wait, and so does my 'just a thought' entry on sunsets. B-O-R-I-N-G. Today's civics class lecturer is the guy from the human rights committee and he won't start the class until we're finished talking among ourselves because it's our right to talk.

Anyways, he just started. Apparently, today's class is about corruption. Ah, the evergreen 'interesting' topic. The thing about corruption in Indonesia is that it's so common here that it's regarded as a part of our culture. And sadly, it works in this vicious circle that can hardly be broken. Why? Well, corruption exists because there is the opportunity for it, like the law of supply and demand... because people are willing to 'support' it, corruptors 'provide' it. Yet, if we don't 'support' it, nothing gets done. It might take more than 3 months to get a passport, for example, if you don't give the officers 'extra' pay.

Sad, but what can we do?

Loaded Questions #6 - my first week :)

Hypotheticals: If you were any animal, what would you be?
A bird. Just so I know how it feels like to fly. Or maybe a hamster cause they're cute :P

Anything Goes: What animal do you enjoy seeing most at the zoo?
Haven't been to the zoo for quite a while now, but I reckon it was the elephants.

No-Brainers: What store is represented most in your wardrobe?
Hmm... I don't think there is any store represented by my wardrobe. I don't have a favourite.

Personals: What is it about you that people find irresistible?
I've been told it's my eyes, some have said it's my sweet and childlike innocence, other say it's because I'm funny... I'll say... Hey, I'm a Scorpio. I'm supposed to be irresistible :D

Curious as a Cat - First time :)

What one thing/event/moment tested your moral judgment the most? Did you pass or fail?
I'd have to say... my last breakup. According to Lidya, I passed :)

What is the best thing that could happen to you? Would your answer have been the same three years ago?
Hmm, right now I guess receiving some kind of money... and no, I don't think it would've been the same.

If you had to live in a hotel for the next year, where would you live?
Conrad Centennial Singapore (Did my internship there last year). Hahah. No, an Aman Resort property... tranquility and luxury in perfect harmony. Definitely tolerable for a year.

Rainbow of Love

We were shopping at Carrefour Lebak Bulus (bought some bears! Check out my Bear House after this), and on the way to our car, I noticed a rainbow in the sky. Took the oppotunity to take pictures, and though the rainbow's colours was rather faint, here goes:

The rainbow on my right...

A closeup of the rainbow on my right...

And the left side of the rainbow.

Too bad I couldn't managed to get a picture of the whole rainbow :(
But anyway, I'm crossing out the take a picture of a rainbow part in my 101 list!

#45 - Do a crazy useless thing, e.g. go naked, kiss a stranger, whatever

I went swimming this morning. Then I decided to go 'oben ohne' aka topless and I swam one lap. Actually I wanted to go skinny dipping. Went as far as pulling my swimming clothes all the way to my knees but chickened out and pulled it back up in a flash. Hahah. But topless was crazy and useless enough for me, so I'm striking it off the list :)

Oh, and for the record... it felt good! Really did. Can't really describe it, though. Give it a try! Definitely worth doing for the spur of the moment :P

Update on 101 Things To Do in 1001 Days

Just realized I haven't updated my 101 things for quite a while... It's just so me, forgetting things I've started to do. Anyway, here are some updates.

#90 - Finally give my Sunday School students their quiz gifts
Gave them the gifts last Sunday. It was way overdue but for some reason they still remember that I owe them something. Can't help loving these kids. The gifts were gel ballpoints. Actually I got lucky, earlier in the morning another sunday school teacher asked me if I would like to buy the pens, took the opportunity and bought them as gift. I was close to not giving them the pens though, because they had the cutest teddy bear cartoon pics on 'em! But I gave it away anyway. Hahah. Maybe next sunday my fellow sunday school teacher will bring some more. Then I'll buy some for myself :P

#85 - Teach someone something they didn't know before
Taught Lidya how to do some photo manipulations on Photoshop. She had requested me to help her with it because I did the Photoshop manips for a birthday present her friends (also my friends, that is) gave her... without mentioning my name, that is. But that's beside my point. We had a short course on Photoshop during Language and Culture class (I think) and looks like she got it perfectly (Lid's a smart girl :P)

#96 - Get an agenda book/organizer and fully utilize it OR use the reminder function of phone
Using a free gift agenda book from Cosmopolitan magazine. Will need to do some personalization though. Its filled with advertisings. Hahah. But I like the book because of its size and how it's organized, with notes pages on the back... and I mean a lot of notes pages!

The Grand Forgiveness

Went to two church services today, at 6.30am and at 10am, both singing in two different choirs. Listened to two different sermons with the same topic: The Grand Forgiveness based on the same scriptures, mainly Luke 15:11-32, the parable of the lost son. The two sermons were completely different because they took different point of views.

The first preacher focused on how the Father is willing to forgive the lost son even though he had done wrong. The second focused on how the elder son felt because the Father had thrown a party when the younger son came back. I liked the second sermon better.

The way the elder son reacted was completely human, of course. There he was, a model son, always does what the Father wants him to do and yet his younger brother, the rebel who left home, went to gamble and have fun with the prostitutes, and loss all his money suddenly came back out of the blue and the Father throws him a welcome home party!

The preacher pointed out that several Christians have felt this way, and they forget that being a Christian is not to receive but rather to show gratitude. The elder son's argument was he has done this and that, why doesn't he GET special treatment? As Christians, we have received our special treatment - salvation, forgiveness in Christ Jesus - and so when we do our good deeds, it is because we are thankful, and not because we want more blessings.

The preacher then played this Flash movie which I thought was very nice. First it showed Jesus handing over a sign post in the shape of a cross to a person, then Jesus told the person to keep the sign up until He returns so that other people can find their way to Jesus. So the person stands there holding the post, showing the way to other people. He was then hit by wind, heat, rain, storm, snow, etc. and finally collapsed. But he remembered Jesus and stood up, continuing to show the way, until Jesus returned and hugged the person - all broken up and battered - and brought him home to heaven.

I'm looking for the movie, but to no avail so far...

Anyways, I think it's a very nice movie and it helped me a lot to understand the calling of a Christian. We are specifically chosen to do the task of showing the way to others, even if it means we'll be broken up and battered along the way, but we should be glad to do it.

Bee Bim Bap, Pondok Indah Mall 2

Website : BeeBimBap.com

Ambience/Design: The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived. It was nice and cozy. On one corner there was this special table with indented floor so you're sitting on the floor level but your feet is lower, if you get what I mean. Anyways, too bad they only have one big table otherwise I would have loved to sit there. So homey. I also liked the string curtain on that table, very unique. The colour was mainly creme/khaki with incandescent lighting, very nice. I also liked the Korean writing on one side of the wall, and I think mom enjoyed the food pictures on the other side.

Food: Korean. I don't think I've ever tried it before. We ordered Simply Korean Balls (rice balls with meat and cheese filling), Seafood Jun (aka seafood pancake), Mini Beef BeeBimBab (they're specialty dish), Kimchi Fried Rice and Korean Citron Tea.
The tea was wonderful! They used Orange peel to flavor it, very unique and very nice. It had this kind of soothing effect. The mixture between sweet and tangy was perfect.
The food was so-so. I mean, it was nice, but not excellently nice. It tasted normal. The BeeBimBab was very healthy, though, possibly the healthiest dish I've eaten for a long while. It was steamed rice covered with dices of beef, fried egg and vegetables (carrots, bean sprouts, spinachs I think and mushrooms).

Service: The waitress who served us was all smiles and very efficient. So efficient in fact that she served the appetizer and main course at one minute interval. Hahah. However, I disliked the fact that they served our hot tea in highball glasses. With straws. Duh. Soooo wrong. Not only is it table manner wise wrong but it also makes perfect sense not to serve hot drinks in glasses with straws. That makes it impossible to drink. Big minus point on that.

Price: Okay. Perhaps a bit on the high side, but they need to cover for the rent, right. We had an average check of 70,000 rupiah.

Verdict: 3/5. Would only recommend if you're into a new experience. Would probably come back if everywhere else is full or I need a dose of healthy delectable food.

Friday's Feast 135 - First for me :)

Appetizer
Name two things that made you smile this week.

1. Getting comments on my blog, thanks everyone :)
2. My new set of towels... with a Teddy Bear picture on 'em... makes me smile each time I shower :P

Soup
Fill in the blank: Don't you hate it when ________?

people don't understand that you are annoyed by them

Salad
When you can't go to sleep, what is your personal remedy to help yourself drift into Lullabyland?

I make stories in my mind... usually I fall asleep by the time I manage to describe the main characters. Hahah.

Main Course
What is something about which you've always wondered but have not yet found a good answer?

If there is one person each of us is meant to be, then why do we fall in love with so many along the way? I mean, live would be so much easier if we only fall in love with the one we're meant to be, right?

Dessert
What is your favorite pasta dish?

Hmm... I'll take any pasta with a carbonara sauce :)

Indonesian Language and Culture Class

Hmm... I can't really say class is boring at the moment - the lecturer is driving us into a heatened up debate on religions - but I still haven't find a reason why I should be interested in it.

I dislike the fact that they are teaching about religion in this class. I mean, shouldn't they be talking about other parts of culture instead? I do agree that religion is part of culture and culture affects religions but seriously... these lecturers are so focusing on this topic that they sound as if they're trying to preach us sometimes!

And I don't think it's appropriate. But whatever. Let them talk, I'm not really listening.

Oh, the heat...

We (mom and I) went over to the immigration office this morning, supposedly to renew our passports, yet it turned out that mom had given the wrong copy of my ID, she gave the old, expired one. So we have to return there next tuesday. Talk about time wasted.

It was so hot that once we got home I decided to go for a swim - possibly the best decision I made the last few days. Hahah. I love swimming so much I wonder why I haven't been swimming for so long.

Actually I would love to babble more about swimming and the heat... but I've got to go now... Class at 2pm, I'll be late if I don't go now. Not that I'm interested in the class or anything. Its just another of those useless state mandatory classes, we just simply have to be there. It sucks :(

Been busy clicking on 'Join Now' buttons :D

As you can see, adding myself to more and more fanlistings everyday, made an account at slide for the photo slideshow, joined yoursite.nu but haven't posted any reviews yet, joined MyBlogLog and OthersOnline. Next I think I'm going bloghopping, but first here's the story of my poor little Philosophy of Religion lecturer...

So we had another Philosophy of Religion class today, as usual almost no one paid attention to the lecturer, most were busy playing computer games (my classmates were busy playing Mistery Case Files:Ravenhearst) when the lecturer suddenly started looking for drinking water. He was going like 'I thought they provide water here? I'm really thirsty. Where can I find water?' and even popped out the question: 'can someone please get me some water?' AND NOBODY WAS REACTING TO HIS REQUEST!!

Now if it was only my class there, I would've straight away told him I'd go and get some, but it was a joined lecture and with so many people there I was somehow afraid to. So what I did was I quietly slipped out of the class and went looking for the office boys, then asked them to bring the water to my lecturer because of course, I was also afraid of showing up in class bringing the water.

However, the office boys must have been busy and forgot about it (or deliberately forgot, but whatever), and I didn't think it was wise to actually go out again and bring my lecturer his water because he might think I was just avoiding his class, so yeah, my poor lecturer ended the class probably still feeling very thirsty.

Lesson learned though, next time a lecturer asks for a favor from the class I'd go and personally deliver what he wants as I used to do. Hey, they deserve the piece of honor from having enough guts and patience to stand before us and give the lecture. Being a sunday school teacher of awesomely loud kids I know how it feels when you're trying to get a point across but nobody is listening. I think I'll also pay more attention next lecture :)

Hmm... didn't think this post was going to turn out to be so introspective...

The sky has lost its colours...

It's raining and the sky is so dark (pic was taken before the rain started). Whoa, now it's also accompanied with massive winds. It's amazing how fast the wheather can change.

Earlier today we went off to Bogor's rural area to a funeral of the mother/grandmother/mother-in-law of our choir member(s), and it was so hot there, the sky was amazingly blue and I got a breath-taking picture of 'The Great Outdoors'. Enjoy! (I'm signing off to watch CSI, and enjoy the rain, hahah)
